Mr Gbeto
You sent this message to me at 9.22am this morning:- "I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM YOU. I AM SO WORRIED BECAUSE SO MUCH TIME HAS BEEN WASTED.I NEED TO KNOW YOU POSITION IN THIS TRANSACTION." But your last message to me was at 18.44 yesterday evening. Tell me precisely what time has been wasted? I was out at friends last night and only saw both of your messages a few minutes ago. I am not used to someone accusing me of wasting time as I pride myself on attending to matters as soon as possible. If this is the way our business relationship is going to progress then I am afraid that you will need to look for another partner
To answer your questions of last night:-I am 57 years old and married with two teenage children.I am a senior partner at Twat & Co
(http://www.twatandco.freeserve.co.uk) which, as you noticed, was founded 100 years ago by my grandfather, Ima Twat. We are a very busy, and profitable, estate agency and surveying partnership so would be ideally placed to assist you in investing in property in the UK. You asked that I keep this transaction and its details confidential: I can assure you that I maintain the traditions of my grandfather and will treat you as if you were a Twat. We at Twats do try to ensure that all our clients are made to feel like Twats and that probably accounts for the success that we have achieved over the last 100 years. I also have many business friends outside of the property market who will be able to advise you in investments in other areas so you need not worry
on that score. I look forward to receiving the copies of the bank documents from you. Also I believe an apology from you would be in order for accusing me of wasting time.

Mr Gbeto
I believe you telephoned earlier today. I was out of the office and one of my partners was discussing a very important land transaction with a client on his mobile phone so couldn't pick up your call at that time. All the other staff were, like myself, elsewhere at the
time.
I'm sorry that I missed you although, at the moment I can't take telephone calls as I recently got struck with tinnitus which is a fairly common, irritating hearing condition. I'm OK talking face to face with someone but, for some reason, talking on the telephone magnifies the ringing noise in my ear and is extremely painful. (something to do with the amplifier inside the telephone I assume). The doctor believes that, with proper treatment it should clear up in about 2 or 3 weeks but until then it's useless even to try and use a phone.I take your point of keeping this transaction confidential so I haven't discussed it with any of the other partners, otherwise they could phone you back - although they were all quite curious as to why you had phoned - we don't have any clients in Nigeria - so I passed you off as someone I had met on holiday.Until this tinnitus clears up we would be best continuing with e-mail communication which is safe and doesn't have the disadvantage of possibly being overheard.

Dear Mr Gbeto
The property and land market here is becoming even more profitable.Whilst it is true that house prices have peaked during the last few months there are tremendous opportunities in industrial buildings and land banks. There is a shortage of building land here in England and finding the right parcels of land, with outline planning permission for housebuilding is an extremely profitable business. With the right parcel of land a shrewd investor can expect to double its value within a 12 month period. As you may have noticed on our company website
(http://www.twatandco.freeserve.co.uk) we specialise in Rough Trade Relief Work which takes undervalued assets and, with the assistance of the local planning authorities, turns them into highly profitable earners. I am sure that we at Twat & Co will be able to assist you in sourcing some interesting Rough Trade.Another of our specialities is Cottaging where there is a tremendous growth market potential and again this is an area I would advise you to look into very carefully.
I have 3 friends who are in the agricultural machinery market covering all sorts of heavy and light equipment. Two of them are active exporters so they will be able to assist you in that area.Still nothing from the bank but I will let you know as soon as anything comes through.

MY DEAR FRIEND AND PARTNER,
COMPLIMENTS OF THE DAY TO YOU, I AM VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THAT THE BANK HAS CONTACTED YOU.HOWEVER, I AM VERY SORRY FOR REPLYING YOUR MAIL LATE, AFTER I RECEIVED YOUR MAIL I HAD TO CONTACT THE ATTORNEY TO VERIFY FROM THE BANK WHAT THEY MEANT AND HE HAS JUST COME BACK FROM THE BANK TO INFORM ME THAT THE DOCUMENTATION THAT THEY SENT TO YOU WAS REQUESTING YOU TO COME TO NIGERIA TO SIGN THE FUND RELEASE DOCUMENTS AS THE BENEFICIARY OR APPLY FOR THE DOCUMENTS TO BE SENT TO YOU BY COURIER THROUGH DIPLOMATIC BAGGAGE BECAUSE THE DOCUMENTS ARE HIGHLY CLASSIFIED.AFTER MUCH DELIBERATION WITH THE ATTORNEY WE REACHED A CONSENSUS THAT IT WILL BE BETTER FOR YOU TO APPLY FOR THE DOCUMENTS TO BE SENT TO YOU BY COURIER THROUGH DIPLOMATIC BAGGAGE,THIS WILL BE BETTER FOR US AND MORE CONVINIENT, THIS WILL ALSO PREVENT A SITUATION WHEREBY YOU WILL BE SUBJECTED TO SERIES OF QUESTIONING. WELL I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH IT WILL COST BECAUSE FROM MY UNDERSTANDING THIS CONCESSION IS USUALLY GIVEN TO TOP GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL AND I BELIEVE THAT OURS IS A DIVINE ARRANGEMENT.THUS, YOU SHOULD GET IN TOUCH WITH THE BANK IMMEDIATELY SINCE YOU HAVE OPENED UP COMMUNICATION WITH THEM AND TELL THEM THAT THEY SHOULD TELL YOU HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO HAVE THE DOCUMENTS SENT TO YOU BY DIPLOMATIC COURIER AND HOW YOU ARE EXPECTED TO MAKE THE PAYMENT TO THEM FOR THE DOCUMENTS TO BE SENT TO YOU.PLEASE DO THAT IMMEDIATELY.

I have NOT received any communication from the bank today. (Well
yes I did but let's get him to spend money sending it again)
I DID receive your e-mail of yesterday but did not reply to it as you
said:-
"COMPLIMENTS OF THE DAY TO YOU. I WONDER WHY THEY HAVE NOT CONTACTED YOU. I HAVE JUST SPOKEN TO THE ATTORNEY AND INSTRUCTED HIM TO CALL THE BANK AND FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG.LET US EXERCISE PATIENCE UNTIL I HEAR FROM THE LAWYER AND SEE WHAT

Obviously I cannot send any money to the bank until I receive their formal request.
Have you managed to find an alternative e-mail address for the bank yet? I am not sure that they received my first reply to them which I addressed to:-
unionbankngplc@adexec.com
As far as I am aware my fax machine has been on all day so I don't understand how the bank's message has not come through.Just to be sure can you arrange for the lawyer to request the bank to re-fax the documents AND send them by e-mail.

MY DEAR FRIEND AND PARTNER,
COMPLIMENTS OF THE DAY TO YOU. I JUST GOT YOUR MAIL AND I MUST CONFESS TO YOU THAT I AM VERY WORRIED WITH THE SITUATION OF THINGS.I JUST GOT OUT OF THE PHONE WITH THE LAWYER AND HE IS ALSO WORRIED THAT YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY MESSAGE FROM THE BANK WHILE THE BANK HAS CONFIRMED TO HIM THAT THEY HAVE SENT A FAX TO YOU, HE PERSONALLY CONFIRMED TO ME ALSO THAT THE DIRECTOR TOLD HIM THAT A FAX HAS BEEN SENT TO YOUR FAX NUMBER.NONETHELESS, SINCE YOU ARE YET TO RECEIVE THE FAX FROM THE BANK, I HAVE JUST INSTRUCTED HIM TO GET ACCROSS TO THE DIRECTOR AGAIN TO ENSURE THAT THEY RE-SEND THE FAX AGAIN AND HAVE THE FAX MESSAGE SCANNED AND SENT TO YOU VIA EMAIL BY ATTACHMENT. I DO NOT KNOW IF HE WILL BE ABLE TO GET HOLD OF THEM BEFORE THE END OF TODAY BUT I PRAY HE DOES TO AVOID FURTHER DELAY.MY DEAR FRIEND, I SINCERELY PRAY THAT THIS MATTER IS RESOLVED IN GOOD TIME TO AVOID A SITUATION WHEREBY THE BANK WILL BEGIN TO SUSPECT THAT THIS IS A DEAL. WE HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL, WE SHOULD NOT ALLOW THIS DELAY TO JEOPARDISE OUR EFFORTS ESPECIALLY NOW THAT THE BANK IS INSISTING THAT THEY HAVE SENT BOTH FAX AND MAIL TO YOU AND THEY HAVE NOT HEARD FROM YOU. THOUGH WITH THIS ARRANGEMENTS OF RESENDING THE FAX AND ALSO SENDING IT BY ATTACHMENT, I BELIEVE THAT IT WILL GET TO YOU.PLEASE, ENDEAVOUR TO GET BACK TO ME WHEN YOU HEAR FROM THE BANK BECAUSE I AM EQUALLY WORRIED TOO.I AWAIT YOUR MAIL WITH GOOD NEWS.

account within your own bank. As I have not used Western Union before
and as my family has banked with Cheshire Midshires Bank for over 50
years I believe that this would be the simplest solution. Please reply
to me with an account number and sort code that my bank can make the
payment to.

Mr Gbeto
You have an extremely annoying habit of accusing me of wasting time. I have told you before that I pride myself on attending to matters straight away and this transaction is no different.
I have been staying with friends over the weekend and that is why I have not replied to your mail but before I left on Friday I made the payment of £3700 to the Natwest account that was specified by Dr Galadima.
I have now come back to find a fax from him dated Saturday saying that the payment should go to Standard Chartered Bank due to some reconciliation exercise with the Natwest account.
Well obviously I can't change the payment now so Union Bank must sort this out with the Natwest Bank.
So, Mr Gbeto, you can see that I have not been wasting time but, in fact, have responded very promptly to the request of the Union Bank to transfer the funds.
An apology from you is in order I believe.

MY DEAR FRIEND AND PARTNER,
COMPLIMENTS OF THE DAY TO YOU, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.I WAS ONLY WORRIED WHEN I DID NOT HEAR FROM YOU. I NEVER GOT THE LETTER OF YESTERDAY.PLEASE PARDON ME.
WITH THIS DEVELOPMENT, I WILL LET THE ATTORNEY KNOW SO THAT HE CAN VISIT THE BANK AS YOUR ATTORNEY TO LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU HAVE ACTED AS REQUESTED, HE WILL ALSO FIND OUT WHY CHANGED THE ACCOUNT.
MEANWHILE, AS THE ATTORNEY GOES TO THE FOREIGN TRANSACTION DEPARTMENT OF THE BANK TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED, I BELIEVE THAT SINCE THEY SAID THAT YOU SHOULD RE-DIRECT THE PAYMENT TO THE CHARTERED BANK, I BEG YOU TO DO SO, WE ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE SOMETHING AT STAKE AND I BELIEVE THAT THEY WILL ALSO HAVE REASONS FOR THE CHANGE. PLEASE I KNOW THAT I HAVE PUT YOU UNDER PRESSURE BUT THIS TIME ARROUND I AM BEGGING YOU, LET US FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS SO THAT THEY WILL NOT HAVE ANY EXCUSE TO DELAY OUR MONEY SINCE THEY HAVE ALREADY APPROVED PAYMENT. PLEASE JUST DO THIS FOR ME.
WITH THIS WE WILL KNOW THAT WE HAVE FULFILLED THEIR REQUIREMENT THUS IT WILL BE LEFT TO THEM TO ACT ACCORDINGLY.I WANT US TO CONCLUDE THIS BEFORE THE END OF THIS WEEK.
PLEASE, GET ACCROSS TO YOUR BANKERS AND INSTRUCT THEM TO TRANSFER THE MONEY TO THE CHARTERED BANK ACCOUNT.
I APPOLOGISE AGAIN FOR THIS STRESS AND MY PREVIOUS OVER REACTION.I MUST TELL YOU THE TRUTH THAT I APPRECIATE ALL THE EFFORTS YOU HAVE MADE AND YOUR PATIENCE.

MY DEAR FRIEND,
COMPLIMENTS OF THE DAY TO YOU. THE LAWYER HAS JUST LEFT MY OFFICE, HE SAID THAT HE MET THE DIRECTOR, FOREIGN TRANSACTION DEPARTMENT AND AFTER EXPLAINING TO HIM AS REGARDS THE DETAILS AS CONTAINED IN YOUR MAIL.
HOWEVER, AFTER MUCH DELIBERATION, THE DIRECTOR CONFIRMED TO HIM (LAWYER) THAT HE RECEIVED A PAYMENT SLIP FROM YOU AS AN ATTACHMENT BUT THAT THEY HAD ALREADY CHANGED THE ACCOUNT FOR SOME MANAGEMENT REASONS, HE ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAVE FORWARDED THE NEW BANK ACCOUNT TO YOU AND THAT THEY ARE SORRY FOR THE INCONVINIENCE.HE ALSO CONFIRMED THAT ALL ARRANGEMENT HAVE BEEN CONCLUDED TOWARDS HAVING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT CREDITED.THAT UPON CONFIRMATION OF THE PAYMENT INTO THE NEW BANK ACCOUNT,THEY WILL IMMEDIATELY FINALISE THE WHOLE PROCESS AND HAVE YOUR NOMINATED BANK ACCOUNT CREDITED ACCORDINGLY.
THEREFORE, MY PLEA WITH YOU IS TO TRY EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO ENSURE THAT YOU MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES TO ENABLE THE BANK ACT AS PROMISED IN GOOD TIME.
I AWAIT YOUR MAIL AS SOON AS EVERYTHING IS TAKEN CARE OF.

Mr Gbeto
I cannot understand the Union Bank's attitude on this question.
Dr Galadima asked me to transfer the money to the Union Bank's account with Natwest which I did.
After, and only after, I had transferred the money did I receive a fax from Dr Galadima suggesting that another account would be preferable due to a reconciliation exercise with the Natwest account.
As I understand it from some of my banking friends this sort of exercise is fairly routine and is generally completed in a couple of days.
The simple solution is for the Union Bank to now find out from Natwest whether the reconciliation of that account has taken place and transfer the money I deposited in the account to wherever it should be. The Union Bank has a copy of the paying in slip so they can ask Natwest to verify that the transfer was made.
I cannot make another payment of £3700 to Standard Chartered Bank as I would then have paid out £7400.

MY DEAR FRIEND AND PARTNER,
COMPLIMENTS OF THE DAY TO YOU. I GOT YOUR MAIL AND I AM VERY SORRY FOR THE STRESS THAT I HAVE PUT YOU THROUGH BUT PLEASE LIKE I SAID EARLIER I DO NOT WANT THE UNION BANK TO HAVE ANY REASON WHATSOEVER TO DELAY OUR PAYMEN,
BASED ON WHAT THE LAWYER TOLD ME, HE SAID ACCORDING TO HIS DISCUSSIONS HE HAD WITH THE DIRECTOR THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHICH LED TO THE RECONCILIATION PROCESS HENCE THEY DO NOT WANT TO CONTINUE TRANSACTIONS WITH NATWEST BANK FOR THE TIME BEING UNTIL EVERYTHING IS RECTIFIED.
THEREFORE THEY TOLD HIM TO ADVISE YOU TO RE-CALL THE MONEY FROM NATWEST AND RE-DIRECT IT TO THE STANDARD CHARTERED BANK. TO AVOID DELAY,ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO SEND THE 3,700 TO THE CHARTERED BANK AND RECALL THE ONE PREVIOUSLY SENT TO NATWEST BANK. OF COURSE WHEN YOU RECALL THE PAYMENT, THE MONEY WILL BE SENT BACK TO YOUR ACCOUNT.THAT IS THE NORMAL PRACTICE,IT IS NOT LIKE YOU ARE PAYING TWICE SINCE THE FIRST PAYMENT WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU. I BELIEVE THAT IF YOU CONFIRM FROM YOUR BANKERS THAT THEY MUST HAVE RETURNED IT BACK TO YOUR ACCOUNT BASED ON WHAT THE LAWYER SAID BECAUSE HE IS IN CONSTANT COMMUNICATION WITH THE DIRECTOR.
PLEASE, I AM BEGGING YOU AS MY PARTNER TO ACT FAST SO THAT OUR PAYMENT WILL NOT BE DELAYED.
I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING AND PLEASE ACCEPT MY APPOLOGIES ONCE AGAIN.I KNOW THAT YOU VERY UP-SET WITH ME,PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
I AWAIT YOUR MAIL SOONEST.PLEASE ENDEAVOUR TO MAIL ME BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I have today asked for the Natwest to credit back to me the payment for £3700.
It took me quite a long time at the bank and, quite frankly, it was embarrassing. I don't know why the Union Bank asked for the money to go to the Natwest in the first place and then change its mind.
Apparently it will take 3 working days for the money to be credited back to my account. I am waiting until this happens before making the transfer to Standard Chartered.
I will advise you when my account has been credited by the Natwest.

MY DEAR FRIEND AND PARTNER,
COMPLIMENTS OF THE DAY TO YOU. I GOT YOUR MAIL AND I APPRECIATE ALL YOUR EFFORTS. I AM VERY HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE COMMUNICATED WITH NATWEST BANK AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO SEND THE MONEY BACK TO YOUR ACCOUNT.
PLEASE, MY FRIEND I AM VERY SORRY FOR ALL THESE STRESS.HOWEVER,I STILL BELIEVE THAT AS WE ARE WAITING FOR THE FUNDS TO BE RETURNED BACK TO YOUR ACCOUNT, THAT IT WILL BE TO OUR ADVANTAGE WITH REGARDS TO TIME TO SEND ANOTHER 3,700 TO THE STANDARD CHARTERED BANK SO THAT WE CONCLUDE THIS TRANSACTION IN GOOD TIME.
ALREADY, YOU HAVE SORTED OUT THE PROBLEM WITH THE NATWEST BANK AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO RETURN THE FUNDS TO YOU WHICH MEANS THAT DEFINITELY THE FUNDS SHOULD BE IN YOUR ACCOUNT BY MONDAY.THEREFORE, IF WE SEND THE REQUIRED AMOUNT TO THE STATNDARD CHARTERED BANK TODAY BY NEXT WEEK WE SHOULD BE CONCLUDING INSTEAD OF WAITING AND AFTER THEY RETURN IT,WE WILL THEN WAIT FOR YOUR BANKERS TO NOW RE-SEND IT TO THE STANDARD CHARTERED BANK, THIS I BELIEVE WILL TAKE SOME MORE TIME. THIS IS JUST A SUGGESTION, I DO NOT WANT YOU TO BE UP-SET ABOUT IT ESPECIALLY AFTER WHAT YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH AND I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND MY REASONS.IF OTHERWISE,WE WILL WAIT.
PLEASE MAIL ME TO CONFIRM THE RECEIPT OF THIS MAIL.

I am naturally a cautious man and believe in deeds more than words. Whilst I believe that the Natwest bank will return the £3700 to my account I would rather wait until it happens (probably Monday) before transferring another some of money.
We Twats did not get where we are today by being careless with money and I still uphold the traditional Twat values.

PLEASE, LET ME KNOW WHEN THIS IS DONE.

PLEASE TO EXPIDITE ACTION, GO TO YOUR BANK AND REQUEST FOR A " TRACER " THAT IS, A TELEX COPY SHOWING THE MOVEMENT OF THE FUNDS FROM YOUR BANK TO STANDARD TRUST.PLEASE ONCE WE HAVE THIS DONE THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONFIRM THE PAYMENT.
I AM DEEPLY SORRY FOR THIS DELAY.PLEASE DO NOT BE UPSET WITH ALL THESE BUREACRATIC BOTTLE NECKS,I KNOW THAT AS SOON AS THEY CONFIRM PAYMENT OUR FUNDS WILL BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY.

Mr Gbeto
First of all please accept my apologies and also please pass these on to Dr Galadima - I checked the payment slip again and found that I had made a mistake in the account number.
Dr Galadima requested that it be paid to account number 0101 249417450 and I'm afraid that I made it out to 0101 24917450.
I'm afraid that my eyesight is not as keen as it once was. That obviously explains why the £3700 has not reached Dr Galadima's account.
I will go to the bank this afternoon and get the mistake corrected and hopefully the fund will be transferred to my account before the end of the week.
Once again please accept my apologies for my mistake.

Dear Sir
I regret to advise you that Mr Stitchup, senior partner of Twat & Co, was killed in a road accident on Wednesday afternoon. He left the office just after lunch and was on his way to the bank when he got run over by a council rubbish wagon which was reversing in the road.
Mr Stitchup probably did not hear the wagon as he had been suffering from a hearing disorder for the past few weeks.
Attached is a clipping from today's local newspaper.
As you can imagine we at Twats are all still in shock at the loss of Mr Stitchup.
One of the other partners will be taking over Mr Stitchup's clients next week after the funeral on Tuesday.
If there was anything specific that required our attention please get back to me as soon as possible and I will see that your query is dealt with.
Yours faithfully

Dear Mr Gbeto
I understand your grief over the
death of Mr Stitchup. Believe me when I say that we at Twats are
still in a state of shock. He was only gone from the office for half
an hour last Wednesday and then we heard that he had been run over.
Thankfully his death was instantaneous so at least he did not
suffer.
I have checked here with the
other partners this morning and they are not aware of any business
transaction that Mr Stitchup had with you. If you would care to send
details I will see if one of the partners can assist.
Please note that this office will
be closed all day tomorrow as a mark of respect whilst the funeral
takes place.
Yours sincerely
